Eating at the beach on the south coast: access, tide, seasonality and precautions

Tide, cliffs, rain and season change the experience of eating at the beach on the south coast and call for planning.
Eating on the south coast requires paying attention to nature before the menu. The Federal Public Prosecutor's Office (MPF), in a March 2026 study about Carapibus, described very fragile rock cliffs, eroded by the tide at the base and by rainwater infiltration at the top. A specialist cited by the MPF warned that a cliff can appear stable for a long time and then recede five meters all at once. For that reason, the recommendation is not to move near the edge or the base of the bluff, especially at high tide.
The study proposes a 10-meter safety buffer from the edge, with removal of structures, fencing and signage at the top and base, drainage of rainwater, and continuous monitoring. This is an emergency preventive measure, not a redefinition of legal boundaries. On May 17, 2025, part of the Carapibus cliff had already collapsed after heavy rain, with no injuries, according to Jornal da Paraíba.
As for establishments, sources show variation. On January 30, 2026, an operation shut down a bar in Coqueirinho for health and safety irregularities. The supply of restaurants also varies with the season, and some venues close outside summer. For that reason, avoid relying on a single stall: bring water and a snack, confirm that the venue is open, and leave margin for the return trip.
Another precaution concerns the water: Sudema publishes bathing water quality bulletins, and monitoring from April 21–23, 2025 deemed a point of Jacarapé, in João Pessoa, unsuitable, according to Jornal da Paraíba (April 2025). Check the current bulletin. This guide does not state hours or prices. There is no detailed source on parking, sandy roads and tide at each beach; consult the Conde city hall and Civil Defense.
