Barra de Gramame and Jacarapé: the south coast within João Pessoa
Article 138 of 100 · October 07, 2026 · 1 min read · Destino João Pessoa

In Barra de Gramame and Jacarapé there are no venues named in recent sources, but there is a Sudema bulletin that helps decide whether it's worth going into the sea.
João Pessoa's south coast begins at Jacarapé, a beach with reefs and gentle waves, and continues to Barra de Gramame, at the mouth of the Gramame River, on the border with Conde. These are the first beaches of the stretch for those coming from the capital via the PB-008.
The research did not locate a journalistic report or institutional source published between 2023 and 2026 naming restaurants or stalls in Barra de Gramame or Jacarapé. For that reason, no establishment is cited. Tourism guides, which are not enough to name venues, describe Barra de Gramame as an old fishing village, where river and sea meet, with simple infrastructure along the waterfront. Those wanting a good meal should rely on venues already documented further south, such as Turek Grelhados (PB-008, km 23), cited by Paraíba Business on August 23, 2026.
The most useful piece of information from an official source is bathing water quality. Sudema, the state's environmental agency, publishes beach classification reports, and the agency's reports page lists bulletins from 2023 to 2025, the most recent updated on November 10, 2025. In April 2025, according to Jornal da Paraíba, Sudema's monitoring (April 21–23) deemed a point of Jacarapé, at the mouth of the Cuiá River, unsuitable for swimming in João Pessoa, along with a stretch of Seixas beach. Conde's beaches were suitable that week.
These results change with every bulletin. Before going into the water or eating near a river mouth, check Sudema's current bulletin.
