History and formation
How the neighborhood took shape
Until the 1998 administrative division, Jardim Oceania was part of the area known as Bessa. The Atlas highlights the Oceania I and Oceania IV subdivisions in its southeastern portion. Bessa, Jardim Oceania and Aeroclube are now separate neighborhoods, although listings still use “Bessa” for a wider area.
Sousa and Sarmento date Oceania I to the early 1950s, expanded in 1954, and the first phase of Oceania IV to 1979. The plans reflect different stages of northern coastal urbanization. The 2022 Census records 20,651 residents.
