The Historic Center brings together old mansions with bars, cafés and restaurants, amid an ongoing public revitalization effort.

João Pessoa's Historic Center concentrates colonial mansions and buildings in eclectic and art deco style, and a good part of them now house bars, studios and cultural spaces. For visitors, the area works well as a combined itinerary: a walk among the monuments and a stop to eat or drink in historic buildings.

A guide from Jornal da Paraíba, Qual a Boa, published in October 2023, lists establishments in the area. Among them are Confeitaria Phelipea and Vila do Porto, both on Largo de São Frei Pedro Gonçalves, the latter described as having a sunset view and cultural performances. Centrô, a bar and restaurant set in a historic building on Praça Antenor Navarro, is listed with cultural programming. On Rua General Osório, the guide mentions General Store Camiseteria e Cafeteria, and on Rua Conselheiro Henrique, Bistrô 17, which serves regional cuisine. Since the guide is more than two years old, it's worth confirming with the venue itself whether it is still operating and how it works before going.

The Center's activity also shows up in sector figures. According to the Abrasel-Stone Index released on July 28, 2026, the Historic Center is among the capital's leisure and dining hubs, with crowds concentrated on Fridays, even though sales at bars and restaurants in Paraíba fell 3.7% in the second quarter of 2026 compared with the same period in 2025.

In the background, there is an ongoing public policy. The Viva o Centro program, launched in December 2023 by the City Hall and the Government of Paraíba, calls for about R$ 400 million in investments, with tax benefits for those who set up in the area.
