Brands like G.Vitor's, founded in 1992, and Madoska, in Manaíra, show the strength of artisanal ice cream shops in the city.
Unlike the concentration of bars and restaurants on the waterfront, João Pessoa's artisanal ice cream shops are spread across residential neighborhoods, often as long-standing family businesses. The oldest example is G.Vitor's, founded in 1992 in the Mangabeira 2 neighborhood by Pernambuco native Mr. Vitor, who arrived in João Pessoa in 1981. The ice cream shop has more than three decades of activity and today offers about 50 artisanal and natural flavors, including regional options such as tapioca, dulce de leche and coalho cheese.
Also in Mangabeira, Sorvetes Perruci is another traditional name in the neighborhood, with hundreds of reviews on consumer platforms, while in the Estados neighborhood Sorveteria Friberg follows the same neighborhood-service model.
In the more touristic circuit, in Manaíra, Madoska Sorveteria Artesanal represents the sector's more recent branch, with reviews geared toward both residents and waterfront visitors.
This set of businesses, spanning decades-old traditions and newer establishments, shows how artisanal ice cream has become part of the local dessert habit, often incorporating typically Northeastern flavors into the ice cream shop format.
