In 2024, the average full meal in the capital cost R$ 49.86, up 17% from 2023, according to ABBT.
The most recent data we were able to confirm from a journalistic source is the annual survey by ABBT (Brazilian Association of Worker Benefit Companies), released in August 2024. According to Paraíba Business, the average price of a full meal eaten out in João Pessoa was R$ 49.86, up 17% from 2023, the highest increase in the Northeast in the survey.
There are important caveats. The meal considered by ABBT includes a main course, a non-alcoholic drink, dessert and coffee, and the survey is conducted at lunchtime, at restaurants that accept meal vouchers. It therefore does not represent dinner at fine-dining establishments. The survey collected 5,640 prices across 51 cities.
For comparison, Terra reported in August 2024 that the national average was R$ 51.61 and that João Pessoa ranked 11th among state capitals. The Northeast average, according to Paraíba Business, was R$ 49.09. The most expensive capital in the survey was Florianópolis, at R$ 62.54.
As a price benchmark for more elaborate restaurants, Paraíba Restaurant Week publishes fixed prices for menus with starter, main course and dessert. In the October-to-November 2026 edition, the Menu Week costs R$ 69.90 for lunch and R$ 76.90 for dinner, and the Menu Plus costs R$ 87.90 and R$ 98.90, without drinks or service charge, according to the local press.
These figures are starting points, not restaurant price lists. À la carte menus, wines and the service charge change the final amount, and prices vary by restaurant and by period. Check the updated menu before booking.
