Built in 1972 atop the Cabo Branco cliff, the 19-meter lighthouse marks the city's proximity to the easternmost point of the Americas.
The Cabo Branco Lighthouse was built in 1972 and stands 19 meters tall, with a light range of 27 nautical miles, according to information from the João Pessoa Tourism Department (Setur). The triangular concrete tower, painted white with a horizontal black stripe, sits atop the cliff of Cabo Branco beach, about 800 meters north of Ponta do Seixas, considered the easternmost point of the Americas.
Visiting the lighthouse is free, and the site is open daily from 9 am to 8 pm, with on-site parking, as announced by Setur to Jornal da Paraíba. Because it sits atop the cliff, the lighthouse also functions as a lookout point, with open views of the coastline toward Tambaú and Manaíra on one side, and toward Ponta do Seixas on the other.
The area around the lighthouse is part of the same stretch of waterfront where Estação Cabo Branco, designed by Oscar Niemeyer, is located, forming a walkable route between two of the city's main landmarks. It is a stroll often combined with sunset, a time when the cliff tends to draw more visitors.
As with any open-air tourist spot, it's worth factoring in the heat and sun exposure of the early afternoon and planning the visit for late afternoon or early morning, as well as confirming any schedule changes on the municipality's official tourism channels.
