Water and electricity had rate increases of 7.72% and 13.59% in 2025, while internet access in the state reached 93.3% of households.

The water bill in João Pessoa is charged by Cagepa, the state water utility. In May 2025 the company proposed a 7.72% rate increase, approved by the Paraíba State Regulatory Agency (ARPB) and published in the Official Gazette at the end of that month, raising the lowest residential rate (for those who consume up to 10 m³) to R$ 98.68, according to reports from G1 Paraíba and Paraíba Online that followed the process.

In electricity, distributed by Energisa Paraíba, ANEEL approved in August 2025 a periodic tariff review with an average effect of 13.59% on power bills, effective as of August 28 of that year and affecting around 1.88 million consumer units in the state, according to a technical note from ANEEL itself reported by the specialized energy press. This percentage is an average: the actual impact varies according to consumption class (residential, commercial, rural, etc.) and the monthly consumption range of each unit.

Internet access in the state, meanwhile, is considered high: according to an IBGE survey, Paraíba reached 93.3% of households with internet in 2025, the highest rate in the historical series, with around 1.4 million households connected — a percentage above the Northeast average (92.7%) and close to the national average (95%). No official data broken down specifically for the municipality of João Pessoa on this particular indicator were found in the sources consulted, since it is released by IBGE at the state level.
