About 25 km from the Tambaú waterfront, João Pessoa's southernmost beach is marked by the mouth of the Gramame River and strong waves.

Barra de Gramame beach is the southernmost in the municipality of João Pessoa, located at the mouth of the Gramame River, shortly before the border with Conde. A small tongue of sand separates the river's fresh water from the sea's salt water, creating a contrasting scene that attracts both swimmers and local fishermen. The stretch has reef formations, which provide more sheltered swimming spots even though it is an open-sea beach.

Despite its beauty, Barra de Gramame is known for waves stronger than those on the capital's urban waterfront, and the river itself tends to turn muddy near the mouth on days of heavier water flow. The wilder portion of the beach, to the right as one arrives, contrasts with the busier stretch, near the parking area and the few kiosks serving the region.

Rafting or kayaking trips on the river are one of the site's attractions, allowing a close look at the mangroves and dunes surrounding the mouth. The beach is also a reference point for those continuing their trip toward the southern coast, since it lies just minutes from the border with Conde, home to Tambaba, Coqueirinho and Carapibus.

Because it is a beach farther from the urban center and with less rescue infrastructure, extra caution is recommended when entering the sea, especially at the spots with rougher waves near the river mouth.
