Waterfront kiosks serve fried fish, stew and snacks, with prices that vary widely from one stall to another.
Eating fried fish facing the sea is one of the activities most associated with João Pessoa's waterfront. The most recent and documented picture comes from Procon-JP, which surveyed ten establishments across four beaches: Cabo Branco, Tambaú, Jardim Oceania and Manaíra. The survey was reported by Polêmica Paraíba on February 3, 2026.
Among the kiosks visited were Sereia do Mar, Terraço Cabo Branco and Giramundo (the latter in Tambaú). The survey compared typical kiosk items: fried fish with fries, fish stew, pastel, codfish fritters and the so-called "mistão," a mixed platter. Mentioning these names refers only to the price survey and is not a recommendation.
The figures show the gap between one stall and another. Fried fish with fries ranged from R$ 90 to R$ 199.90. Fish stew ranged between R$ 9.99 and R$ 35, a variation of 250%. The mistão ranged from R$ 89.90, at Giramundo, to R$ 200, at a Cabo Branco kiosk, according to the agency's report.
The practical tip is to ask for the priced menu before sitting down, ask about the fish species and the portion weight, and check whether the price is per dish or per kilo. The figures cited reflect the date of the survey and may have changed. Outside the central waterfront circuit, Praia do Seixas and Bessa also have seaside restaurants, such as Estaleiro, mentioned in a January 2025 roundup.
